This drum easily lends itself to that “fatback” classic rock sound and yet can be tuned up high for plenty of high-end crack! This near one of a kind drum can be a real workhorse and lends itself easily to any musical situation in which you may find yourself – Rock, Jazz, Big Band, Western Swing, Ska, Punk, Reggae, Hip Hop, Funk, Zydeco, Blues, R&B and excels in the recording studio! Or you may just want to keep as part of your collection for only very special occasions! This drum can be used right out of the box. The batter side is a brand new Remo Coated Controlled Sound X. The bottom head is a Tama brand head and is more than likely the original head as are the snare wires which may will need new tape as the tape which is present is very old and probably the original. As far as the shell, there a couple of nicks and dings but nothing too major and these flaws cannot be seen unless you are up close to the drum and even then, you have to search for them. There is one slightly bent tension rod and the screw heads on the butt side are worn for use with a Phillips’ blade screwdriver but are still operable with a flat blade screwdriver.

This means that this is YOUR chance to actual own one of these drums! Specific to this drum, there are a few flaws which include some very minor pitting and scratches in some of the chrome. These drums are extremely rare, arguably more rare than the Ludwig pre-serial number COB snare drums and the Tama snare drums don’t come up for sale all that often, if ever.

Due to the expense in the labor involved in producing the inlay, Tama didn’t make too many of these snare drums and you probably would have known about these only if you had seen the drum in the 1980 catalog. But the real attention getting feature of this drum is the herringbone inlay in the high gloss lacquer finish and this is a prime example of the quality and craftsmanship which put Tama into the ring as a true contender in the drum market. Ink stamped on the interior of this drum is “6.5.12” but is no indication of anything at first or second glance. This drum features a birch shell, 10 lug design, die cast hoops, the Tama Roller Bed snare strainer and the one touch tone control internal muffler. I found an 80's era (I'm assuming the vintage, because of the first two numbers in the serial numbers on the badges) superstar in a pawn shop, and bought it for 500.00.
